the first drawing shows some staining

Signed by a Linda Hyda and dating to the 1930s-1940s

and perhaps the screws could be further tightened

Seems to me the side with the hunting dog came first, made as a print block, but then someone decided to carve this face of a child (with marvelous collar!) into the wood on the reverse side not to be printed, but just as a carving. A quite a skillful carver they were, so beautifully done, with the face looking perhaps Native American, or Inuit, to me. A bit mysterious feeling, and
